"You Touched My Heart"
from the CD "M&R Rush"
It was the spring of 1978 when Roger and John got together at Roger‘s apartment in Lansing, Illinois to throw some song ideas around. Roger had an idea for a new song and had some chord changes and lyrics. John recently had been inspired by the feel and emotion of the new Journey song “Lights”. The two collaborated for about an hour and You Touched My Heart was complete.
It was immediately added to the live show with John singing the lead vocal. As the years progressed the song changed from its original concept. Carl added some new lyrics to the verses and Jeff took over the lead vocal duties.
On the final recording, a saxophone played by Barry Sperti of the Matteson All Stars was added to the arrangement.
The song is about a broken-up longtime loving relationship where you still think of that person and miss them…but now you have to move on.
LYRICS
I called up your number yesterday
Cause I think of you all the time
You’re the only one that’s on my mind
They said you were gone without a goodbye
And there’s not a thing that I can do
Oooh, that I can do
But now, now that you’ve gone away
Now that you’ve gone
It’s hard to hold back the tears
Back the tears
But the memory of you, has lasted all these years
Cause You Touched My Heart
You’re gone and it’s tearing me apart
Cause You Touched My Heart, with your love
And now as I think about the days
I thought it could only get better
But I know by now that’s not the way
Are you thinking of me
I’m thinking of you
But there’s not a thing that I can do, oooh, that I can do
But now, now that you’ve gone away
Now that you’ve gone
It’s hard to hold back the tears,
Back the tears
But the memory of you, has lasted all these years
Cause You Touched My Heart
You’re gone and it’s tearing me apart
Cause You Touched My Heart, with your love
You Touched My Heart
You’re gone and it’s tearing me apart
Cause You Touched My Heart, with your love
